I recently had to abandon my Bump Bot experiment due to Discord's new policy preventing bump bots from being able to sell autobump features on patreon. As a result I decided to start a new study. The new study aimed to compare the effectiveness of massive fast growing servers with advertising channels (think CallMeCarson's Discord Cult and Sounds World), fast growing large advertising servers (Think AYS, SPC, DGP, Open Ads, and EYS), and a myriad of smaller servers. The results were interesting. So let's look at the findings.
Top servers: These are the servers that tend to provide the best growth. Servers such as CallMeCarson's Discord Cult, Sounds World, Discord Emoji & Servers, Kungarna, Raccoon Den, BadBoy Halo, Members+ etc. These are all massive servers with single advertising channels, but they are effective because of how insanely large they are, and the fact that they attract such large quantities of new people every day.
Top Server Links:
CallMeCarson
Sounds World
Discord Emoji
Kungarna
Raccoon Den
Badboy Halo
Members+
Large advertising servers: These are the servers most of you are familiar with. They are not the best servers to advertise on, but they are pure advertising servers renowned and held in high esteem. These servers grow quickly and have survived over a long period of time. This category includes Advertise Your Server, Self Promotion Central, Open Advertisements, Discord Growth Portal, Advertise Here, Expand Your Server, Advertising Boat, Promote Your Servers, & a few more.
Large server links:
Self Promotion Central
Advertise Your Server
Open Advertisements
Heat's Promotion
Advertising Mania
Expand Your Server
Discord Growth Portal
Advertise Here
Small advertising server category: These are the little guys. These servers range from servers under 2000 members, and very small servers. The majority only contain several hundred members and the growth isn't very impressive for these servers.
I want to also leave a few notes here, but you do not have to read them. It's just me ranting, so it's pretty irrelevant in a sense.

Many people are stuck under the impression that advertising servers don't work. Some are quite fervent about it. In fact I have dealt with a very rude individual over this matter on another server, and he refused to believe me because of his poor experiences and he threw insults my way when I tried to explain to him my experiences growing different types of servers. It was an unfortunate experience, but it really shows how some people struggle to grow from advertising servers.
There are many reasons for that. Yes, most people join these servers to advertise, but that doesn't mean you can't attain impressive growth from them. You just have to work hard at it to see the type of results that I've been reaching. You should also keep in mind that advertising servers are not the only method to grow, and that some servers grow much better through advertising servers than others. Out of all the servers I've grown using advertising servers, the ones that struggled the most to gain members were minecraft servers. So I assume niche gaming servers often struggle.
Advertising servers from my experience will receive around twice as high growth compared to community servers in general, however let's not forget that not all community servers will interest users, and not all community servers are equal. You need a good ad, and your server needs to appear appealing to people. There are many low effort servers on Discord. As stated before, certain types of servers actually will struggle to grow from this platform no matter how much you advertise.
An example would be a Minecraft server, for which I absolutely struggled to grow on several occasions! Regardless, I conducted this experiment a while ago in which Oasis advertising outperformed a community server, and an anime server by about 2x. However both the community and anime servers were able to reach 50 joins through intense advertising on ad servers in just one day.
TL;DR If you want to see results like me, you need to provide these qualities:
1: An interesting server with a high effort template, graphics, bots, roles, and so on. If your server appears bland and uninspired, it won't interest people.
2: A good ad. See yourself as a pitchman trying to lure in people. Appeal to people's interests using yourself as a consumer. What do YOU want in a community?
3: People will leave in massive quantities if your server isn't actually 'good'. You have to provide a product people feel is worth their time in order for them to stay.

Hypothesis:
My hypothesis was that the top servers would see significantly higher joins than the large advertising servers, but the large advertising servers would see much greater joins than small advertising servers. The reason I came to this conclusion is because top advertising servers consist of far more active users than either of the pure advertising server categories. Therefor there are far more potential people who will view your ad. Another point is that servers obtaining very impressive, constant growth, are more likely to be inundated with fresh faces every day to potentially see your ad. Because of this, I believed that large advertising servers would outperform small advertising servers.
My hypothesis was mostly correct. Reach the bottom for my findings and my next analysis.

Conclusion:
Carson, Sounds, Members+ and the other servers in the top category were advertised the most. They proved to be the most effective servers to promote in by far, so if you wish to advertise but don't want to clutter yourself with too many servers, you will definitely want to join CallMeCarson, Sounds World, Members+, Discord Emoji & Servers, BadBoyHalo's Discord, Kungarna, and Raccoon Den. These servers represented our 'top' category, and we saw tremendous growth from them. However we promoted multiple times per hour every day, so our frequency was significantly higher than what the average person would pull off. Still, our growth was substantial, and we gained 348 joins from these servers since we began conducting this study about 6 days ago.
Medium servers (The AYS, SPC, DGP, Open Ads, etc) category performed well. 137 joins may be significantly less than the top category, but if you have the time to advertise, it definitely doesn't hurt to promote in these servers. It will only take a minute or two extra of your time, and you will see around a 1.5x boost to your growth! When advertising in medium servers, I typically promoted in 4 or more channels per each server. It definitely consumes more time than promoting within the single ad chanels in top servers, but it can provide a boost to your join rate. Also keep in mind I advertised slightly less frequently in medium servers as I did in top.
Small servers: The small servers performed almost as well as medium servers, which actually caught me for a surprise. I expected this category to perform poorly, but still, 102 joins is nothing to scoff at. However if you don't have the time to advertise on smaller servers, you probably shouldn't. But they do work, and this study has proven that. There are probably hundreds of small advertising servers on Discord, but I'd recommend the active ones. You will see a decent boost to your growth if you have the time to advertise intensely in all three categories, but if you don't have the time you can probably just stick to top servers and maybe add some medium servers in if it's not a problem for you.
