Backstory: I wanted to see how many members I could get a community server instead of an advertising server by doing the exact same thing, by advertising as much as I can for one full day.Because obviously advertising servers have an advantage as they are being advertised on advertising servers, and most people are obviously only there to advertise. So the hypothesis I came up with beforehand was that the advertising server would perform much better than the community server (In this case, Jake's Server) in terms of join rates and stay rates.
I decided to conduct an important 1 day experiment. Something that really needed to be done, because it is important and had never been done before. The experiment was to attempt to examine how many members Advertising servers gain in comparison to Community servers, using advertising servers as the platform of advertisement.
This experiment not only examines the differences between how many people on advertising servers join other advertising servers in comparison to community servers, but it also demonstrates how potentially effective advertising servers can be. This is especially necessary not only for comparison purposes, but to demonstrate to the community how advertising servers can be effective platforms for growth when used strategically, frequently, and persistently.
For this experiment, I first advertised Oasis Advertising, a 1000+ member advertising server. Oasis Advertising is one of my favorite advertising servers because it is actively advertised and contains over 1000 members. 1000 members may not seem all too impressive, but it's a respectable benchmark and a relatively high member milestone in comparison to most advertising servers that exist. The other server I advertised, the next day, was a community server called Jake's Server. I decided to use this server for the second experiment because I felt it was an archetypal example of a solid community server. Jake's Server stood out to me as a great community server due to its size, impressive activity, and the fact that it's level 3 nitro boosted.
I created my own ads for both of these servers to ensure maximum efficiency. When I write ads, I personally prefer them small, direct, to the point, and honest. I add formatting where necessary, such as applying bold to key points. I add emotes and unicode where fit, and I try to avoid adding excessive flair. I have posted both of my ads below in spoilers.
The experiment only lasted for about a day for each server. While 1 day would appear short and difficult to believe, I have witnesses who can prove I'm being honest about the duration of these experiments. The point of these experiments is to conduct valid data. I advertised very aggressively, and didn't give myself a long break at any point during both days. I posted on over 90 servers, cycling several times, and I posted my ad as often as I possibly could in unlimited channels. I did not miss any opportunities to post in the strongest servers, such as Carson's, Sounds, and Kunagarna. I advertised as hard as I knew how to because I really wanted to see the best results I could.
Looking back, I probably put in a very similar amount of work into each experiment, however I was able to post Jake's Server in a larger number of categories than Oasis. With Oasis, I posted in 'Advertising', 'Community', and Giveaway channels primarily. With Jake's Server, I posted in 'Community', 'Gaming', 'Entertainment', 'Emoji', and other categories, so Jake's server probably saw considerably more exposure overall. Now let's look into the results:
Hypothesis:
Advertising servers would grow much faster than community servers because most people are on advertising servers to advertise, not to meet people. Furthermore, I predict that more new members will leave Jake's server than the amount that leave Oasis because people are pickier with community server than advertising servers.

If you run an advertising server of a respectable size, it will probably grow more than twice as fast as a community server counterpart, especially if ad is posted in community and other channels besides 'listing'.
