First of all, this is not a growth topic. If your goal is to learn how to grow then read growth tips. This guide is not comprehensive, but it includes all of the platforms I routinely use for advertising. This thread however is important, because it goes hand in hand with exposure as you need both to be successful. You should make sure your server offers the following:
• Design your server so that it's appealing to people.
• Market your server so that it's appealing to people.
• Designing a good advertisement for hub servers.
• Being a good leader: Are you active, welcoming, mature?
1: Designing your server
What does your server look like? Make sure that your server can check mark the following:
Server can bring something to the table, and isn't too generic. For instance, if you're a 'general' gaming server, you may struggle to grow a large audience as there are already thousands of these. ✅ ❌
Channels are neatly organized into multiple categories of different genres (Example: A 'general' category with 'general' channels and a 'gaming' category with 'gaming channels'). ✅ ❌
Server includes some very useful botsto keep people engaged, hand them roles, moderate, etc. ✅ ❌
Server has its own, original, unique custom built bot specifically made for it. (Optional, but highly recommended to help your server stand out.) ✅ ❌
Some random tips: Be open to events, giveaways, and other things of that nature. Also, try to refrain from using @everyone or @here, but instead create an announcement ping.
2: Marketing your server
It is also important that your advertisement on each and every platform that you use (whether it be an advert for advertising servers or a page on a listing service) is well written and persuasive. It's important that you prioritize the key aspects of your server that make it stand out, and it's important you include the right amount of detail. Use reasonably good grammar: this shows that you're more likely to be older and more experienced. If your ad looks like it was written by a 13 year old and lacks grammar, detail, and persuasiveness, then you won't be able to build a strong active group no matter how much you advertise. Here's an example of a good DISBOARD ad (SPC), vs a bad DISBOARD ad (The bad ad will be written by me).
✅ Good
❌
Bad

Why is the first ad good, and the second ad bad? Because the first ad includes far greater detail, bullet points to neatly arrange each key point, and shows how the servers offers far more to the reader. By reading the first ad, you will know that the server offers members many places to advertise, has great traffic and a large member count, offers events and giveaways, and different tiers of partnerships. The second ad not only lacks detail, but it's also poorly written and gives off the impression that maybe the writer isn't very good at his/her job. This may sound harsh, but it's the truth, and it doesn't mean that a poor writer isn't capable of improving both his/her ad, and his/her server.
3: Designing a good ad for advertising servers.
Advertising servers can drastically improve your join rate. Don't believe me? Look at my stats - they don't lie, nor do I have any real incentive to lie when my server offers a wider variety of information for growth than most listing servers. You can make the most out of advertising servers with a good ad, by posting your ad in a large variety of servers each and every day, and by doing rep4rep or ping4ping partnerships (I personally don't recommended standard partnerships, but hey that's just me). Take a look at our server's ad, and tell me what you notice. I even included some markers to show you what your ad should include to make it easier:)
4: Being a good leader
Ask yourself the following questions:
Are you a mature leader? Do you have experience leading successful servers in the past? ✅ ❌
Are you active? If you're starting a server but can't devote a large potion of time to it, it won't work out too well. ✅ ❌
Are you welcoming? Are you and your staff capable of welcoming and being friendly and outgoing towards your new members? ✅ ❌
Some features I recommend your server to include:
- A suggestions channel
- A role hierarchy
- Invite tracker
- Introductions
- Bot channel
- Staff applications
- Partnership manager
- 50 custom non-animated emojis
- Self-Assign roles
- Announcement ping
- Partner ping
- Meme channel
- Venting channel
